Cristobal weakens to tropical depression, expected to dissipate today
Tropical Storm Cristobal has weakened into a tropical depression and is expected to dissipate later Thursday, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center. As of 9 a.m. GMT Thursday, Cristobal was located about 980 kilometres west of the Azores, near 38.6 N and 38.2 W. The system was moving northeast at about 26 km/h, with maximum sustained winds near 55 km/h and higher gusts. A nice day ahead for most of the province
It will be a pleasant day across most of Newfoundland. There are a few exceptions: there is a risk of late-day showers in central Newfoundland, and on the Great Northern Peninsula we will see some showers this morning but will likely see a few areas of sunshine this afternoon. A wet Wednesday ahead
Expect a wet day across the Island, with rain expected along the west coast, amounting to 5 mm. Grand Falls-Windsor will see 5 to 10 mm of rain. On the Great Northern Peninsula, expect 2 to 4 mm of rain. Highs today will range from 16 to 23. Labrador will see 2 to 4 mm of rain today, while late this afternoon, Mary's Harbour will see about 5 mm. There is a chance of showers in Churchill Falls and Nain. Highs will be from 11 to 22.
