Central and western sections of Newfoundland will see 2 to 4 mm of rain today. On the Avalon, it will be overcast with a chance of showers or drizzle. Elsewhere across the Island, there is a chance of showers. Highs today will range from 11 to 19. There is a chance of showers in most of Labrador. On the southeast coast, it will be cloudy with a chance of showers. Highs from 8 to 11 are expected.

A special weather statement has been issued for the Avalon Peninsula, warning of the potential for significant rainfall from Saturday afternoon through Sunday afternoon. A developing weather system is expected to bring a prolonged period of rain to the region. Rainfall totals of 40 to 70 millimetres are possible, with the heaviest rainfall expected Saturday night.
