Over 100 cm of snow recorded in parts of Ontario

A significant lake effect snow event began Wednesday night resulting in intense snow squalls setting up off Lake Superior into the Sault Ste. Marie area. On Thursday night, squalls developed off Lake Huron and Georgian Bay and continued into today.

Some areas received over 100 cm of snow. The following is a summary of weather event information received by Environment and Climate Change Canada. 

Snowfalls amounts as of 6:00 a.m. EST December 3: 
  • Echo Bay: 136 cm
  • Sault Ste. Marie: 105 cm
  • Beatrice: 62 cm
  • Markdale: 59 cm
  • Fisherton 33 cm
  • London 57 cm
  • Goderich 23 cm
  • Kitchener 16 cm

Unofficial snowfalls amounts in centimetres received via social media: 
  • Gravenhurst (as of 8:00 A.M. EST December 1): 140 cm
  • Bracebridge (as of 5:45 A.M. EST December 1): 125 cm
  • Elmwood (as of 10:30 A.M. EST December 1): 75 cm
  • Walkerton (as of 10:30 A.M. EST December 1): 60 cm
  • East of Brussels (as of 11:30 P.M. EST December 1): 55 cm
  • NE London (as of 10:15 A.M. EST December 2): 30 cm
  • Kintore (as of 9:15 A.M. EST December 2): 24 cm
  • Mitchell (as of 2:00 P.M. EST December 1): 18 cm
